Main Street repairs start Monday in Alton
You will need to find another route if you use Main Street to get from upper Alton to Broadway starting next week. On Monday, the city’s street crews will begin a mill and paving project on Main from Hillcrest to Broadway that is expected to last a week, weather permitting.
St. Charles casino opens fast-casual Mexican restaurant
ST CHARLES, Mo. — Ameristar Casino Resort Spa St. Charles last week opened The Salted Lime, a fast-casual concept serving Mexican cuisine. In tandem with the restaurant’s opening, Ameristar launched a QR code ordering platform that allows guests at the resort to order food at all its restaurants from anywhere on the property and then pick up their order once ready.
Missouri man sentenced to nearly 9 years in prison for 2022 Jennings carjacking
On Thursday, U.S. District Judge Sarah E. Pitlyk sentenced La’Vontray Hayes-Williams to nearly 9 years in prison for a carjacking incident that occurred in 2022. The incident took place on July 7, 2022, outside a Family Dollar store located at 6440 West Florissant Avenue in Jennings. Hayes-Williams brandished a handgun and demanded the keys to a 2018 Nissan Sentra from the driver, commanding, “Give me the car.” He then fled the scene in the vehicle with his girlfriend. The victim immediately contacted the police, who promptly located Hayes-Williams and initiated a pursuit. The chase extended almost ten miles and speeds exceeded 100 mph.

The Alton City Council went through its list of resolutions and ordinances at Wednesday’s meeting much like aldermen did Monday at the Committee of the Whole meeting. One resolution changing the ordinance that lays out the boundaries of the zones where cannabis dispensaries can be located was laid over in committee, effectively killing that move.

New pickleball courts to open May 3
Pickleball continues to grow in the Riverbend and new pickleball courts are opening at Gordon Moore Park. The City of Alton will hold a ribbon cutting next Friday May 3 at the open play courts at 9am and then its first come, first serve. As the weather continues to improve, players of all ages are moving from indoor courts to outdoor venues around the area.

Alton crews respond to fire at home of mayor
Alton firefighters were called to the home of Alton Mayor David Goins on Monday after the mayor stopped by his home and discovered smoke. Authorities got the 9-1-1 call from Goins around 11:45am for the home he shares with his wife in the 2700 block of Judson. No injuries were reported, and the small fire was limited to an area in the basement.
