Superintendent candidate for school district pulls name after parents push back
CHARTIERS VALLEY, Pa. (KDKA) — A candidate for superintendent of the Chartiers Valley School District has pulled his name out of the running for the position. The board planned to appoint Philip Martell as the new superintendent at a meeting on Tuesday night, but he told KDKA-TV that he pulled his name for consideration. BADEN ― Step back in time 100 years at the May 19 centennial celebration for the Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse Chapel in Baden. Archivist Kathleen Washy will give a presentation on the rich history and architecture of the chapel, which for a century has served as the heart of the Sisters of St. Joseph home. It’s where Sisters enter the congregation and gather for joyous and solemn occasions. The chapel is also a special and sacred place for many others who have shared in the Sisters' lives and ministries.

Sewickley Academy students will be playing football for Moon next fall under a plan the private school announced Tuesday. Pending approval from the WPIAL and PIAA, the schools will form a cooperative sponsorship of a sport — known informally as a co-op — for middle school and high school football starting in the fall. Sewickley Academy fields teams in eight other boys sports but doesn’t have its own football program.
