Update: Crash Off New Priest Grade Sparks Small Fire, Power Outage
Update at 11:40 am: New Priest Grade has reopened with one-way traffic control following a crash during the nine o’clock hour where a pickup truck traveled off the highway and into a power pole. Initially, 2,100 PG&E customers lost electricity. The company reports that only 26 are still without power. The crash also sparked a 1/4-acre vegetation fire that was quickly contained. Only minor injuries were reported from the incident. The CHP hopes to have the roadway completely reopened within the 1 o’clock hour.

Man Who Robbed Columbia Camp Site Sentenced
Columbia, CA – A Virginia man will serve nine years in prison for the armed robbery of two campers in the Columbia area in March. On Monday (5/20), 56-year-old Claudio Puccio, who was staying in the Columbia area, was sentenced to 9 years in state prison to be served at 85%, according to Tuolumne County District Attorney Cassandra Jenecke. Puccio pleaded guilty to the March 17th robbery with a firearm and assault with a deadly weapon. Jenecke added that in court, the female victim gave a Victims’ Impact Statement about how significantly this event has affected her life. She also noted that both charges qualify as strike offenses under California’s Three Strikes Sentencing scheme.
Groveland Woman Arrested For Felony DUI Crash
Sonora, CA – A solo vehicle crash on Jamestown Road in Sonora resulted in a felony DUI arrest for a Groveland woman. Driving a 2024 Kia Forte recently south on Jamestown Road near Ratto Road, 21-year-old Mya Victor, and her passenger, Zachary Bisset of Tuolumne, collided with a pole. According to CHP spokesperson Officer Steve Machado, “Due to Victor’s intoxication and unsafe turn, she allowed the Kia to leave the roadway and drove onto the right shoulder, where her car crashed into a power pole.”
