UPDATE: Fort Bliss soldier dies in motorcycle crash

UPDATE: A Fort Bliss spokesperson confirmed that a soldier died in the crash on Monday morning, April 22 near Sergeant Major gate at Fort Bliss.

Fort Bliss confirmed the soldier was with the 1st Armored Division. They sent the following statement:

“The Fort Bliss Directorate of Emergency Services and El Paso Police Department are investigating the death of a 1st Armored Division Soldier due to an apparent motorcycle accident near the Master Sgt. Pena Gate. The Soldier’s name will not be released until their next of kin has been notified. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Soldier’s family and unit during this difficult time.”

ORIGINAL: EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) — A motorcycle crash near the El Paso International Airport closed off two roads Monday morning, April 22, according to El Paso Police.

Police say they responded just before 7:30 a.m. to a crash involving a motorcycle at Spur 601 and Airport Road.

Police say Sergeant Major Boulevard and Airport Road are closed off.

Police did not specify if there were any injuries or how many people were involved in the crash.

Police say the incident is being investigated by Fort Bliss.

No further information has been released.
