Man charged arson after 3 house fires in El Dorado Springs during March

CEDAR COUNTY, Mo. (KOAM) — Suspicious fires in El Dorado Springs, Mo. during March prompted the police dept to launch investigation.
March 1, 2024: El Dorado Springs Fire and Police Department responded to a structure fire at 317 S Park St, El Dorado Springs. The cause of the fire was undetermined.
March 27, 2024 : El Dorado Springs Fire and Police Department responded to a structure fire at 113 W Cruce, El Dorado Springs. The Missouri State Fire Marshal determined the cause of the fire as arson.
All three homes that burned were vacant. There were no injuries.
El Dorado Police Dept state, “ during the investigation, Kenneth W. Johnson Jr. acknowledged his part in several fires within the community .”
According to court paperwork filed, “ Johnson admitted during this interview that he had burned [one] residence by setting fire to a old shirt that was in the residence with a lighter and matches because a friend of his had lost the home to a tax sale.”
He was arrested on the following charges:
Felony Burglary 2nd (3X)
Felony Arson 2nd (3X)
Bond has been set at $40,000 cash-only.
Johnson remains in custody at the Cedar County Jail. April 24 a bond reduction hearing is scheduled.
