Plainsmen passing attack overwhelms Rock Springs in home-opening win
LARAMIE — Best friends boast built-in chemistry. Just ask Laramie seniors Dax Parvin and Issac Kirsch. Chuck it up, and Kirsch will find it. Plainsmen quarterback Parvin connected with his buddy – all-state wideout Kirsch – for a deep score a week ago. Same story Friday. The buddies linked up for three receptions and a score during the Plainsmen’s home-opening 27-21 win against Rock Springs on Friday night at Deti Stadium. The win pushed Laramie to 1-1 on the year. “(Parvin and I) have always had that connection,” Kirsch said last month. “We are ready to go all at times.” Parvin threw for 326 yards and two scores with an interception on 14-for-18 passing. “If I see (Kirsch) on a mismatch on a guy (that) I know who can’t guard him, I know the ball is going to go his way,” Parvin said. “He can make a play on any defensive back in the state. Whenever they don’t want to put a safety over the top, we are going to take a shot, for sure.” Kirsch led the receivers with three grabs for 114 yards. Parvin found Kirsch on an 85-yard strike less than two minutes into the second quarter.

A closer look at campaign spending after primary election, and lack of funding for school safety after recalibration
Greetings, and happy Friday! We are one day closer to the first weekend of September, which also means it's almost time for University of Wyoming football to begin. The season opener is significant with the longtime Border War rivalry against Colorado State. Here's to everyone having fun and safe travels to and from Fort Collins. Today's newsletter begins with a review by the Wyoming Tribune Eagle of campaign finance reports for the Aug. 18 primary election, and the spending for governor easily led the statewide races. Also, when the Wyoming Legislature undertook school finance recalibration this past spring, many districts benefited with an increase of funds for hiring and paying teachers. But the new funding silos model also meant shortfalls in areas such as operations and athletics. Another shortcoming is not enough funding for school safety. Wyoming’s plan to build the West Fork Dam and reservoir above the nearby Little Snake River Valley in Carbon County for irrigation is under new scrutiny because of lawsuits surrounding the Colorado River allocation of water. The front page of today's print edition of the Boomerang also has the second installment in a series about the rise of data centers by Adams MultiMedia enterprise

Tragedy strikes community theater in 2026 Wyoming mock trial case
CHEYENNE – When a co-author of a play about Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton was fatally shot during rehearsal, with a gun that was supposed to be unloaded, the Carter County authorities charged the other co-author with murder. The case of State of Wyoming vs. Hunter Hemingway, released Tuesday, will be argued by teams of high school students at the Wyoming High School Mock Trial Tournament on Dec. 5 in Cheyenne. Case materials and information about rules and registration are posted on wyomingmocktrial.com . The winning team will represent Wyoming at the National High School Mock Trial competition May 13-15 in St. Louis. Support for WHSMT comes from the Wyoming State Bar and from teachers and attorneys who appreciate what students learn from mock trial: how the American judicial system works, performance skills, teamwork, analyzing problems and strategizing answers – all in the dynamic setting of a court trial. Competition requires teams to argue both sides of a case in separate trials. Competition is open to teams of 6-8 students. WHSMT can help interested teachers and attorneys to form teams and find coaches. For more information about WHSMT and opportunities to coach or to judge or preside at the state
