CLUB BASKETBALL: Pipestone’s Kor ready for grand stage
Current Pipestone Area Schools girls’ basketball player Jadyn Kor will bring her game to the national stage. Kor and the 16-under “Black” Sanford Sports Academy team based in Sioux Falls, has been chosen to compete in the 2024 USA Basketball Club Championships from Saturday through Monday, July 27-29.

Bulls win, Frogs lose region openers
The Jackson Bulls escaped with a win over Pipestone in Game 1 of their best-of-three series to open the Region 13C tournament Wednesday night and the Lakefield Frogs lost their opener at Luverne. The second-seeded Bulls needed an eighth-inning run to beat the seventh-seeded A’s 2-1 at Wacker Field.
Baltic/Colton Falls Short to Dell Rapids in Region 2B
Baltic/Colton suffered their first loss of the Region 2B tournament on Wednesday, July 24th. Dell Rapids was able to pull away for a 13-8 victory. Dell Rapids struck first with three runs in the bottom of the first. Baltic/Colton cut the lead to 3-2 with two runs in the top of the third. Dell Rapids got two runs themselves in the bottom of the third to make the score 5-2. Baltic/Colman scored three times in the top of the fourth to tie the game 5-5.
Season Ends for Baltic/Colton in Region 2B Tournament
Facing Volga for the second time in the tournament, Baltic/Colton lost in dramatic fashion 14-13 in eight innings on Thursday, July 25th. The loss ended the season for Baltic/Colton with an overall record of 4-13. Baltic/Colton built an early 7-0 lead. They scored a run in the top of the first and six more in the top of the second. Volga then rallied for nine straight runs. They scored two in the bottom of the second, three in the third, and four in the fourth for a 9-7 lead. Baltic/Colton tied the game 9-9 with two runs in the top of the fifth. Volga regained the lead in the bottom of the inning with three runs, 12-9.
Madison Post 25 falls to Dell Rapids, will play Volga today in Region Tournament
The Madison Post 25 baseball team lost to Dell Rapids 6-1, in the semi’s of the Region 2B American Legion baseball tournament on Thursday. Dell Rapids took control early, scoring two runs in the 1st inning off a Madison error and a single from CJ Smith. Dell’s then scored a run in four consecutive innings starting in the 3rd. Madison’s lone run came on an error in the 6th.
AMATEUR BASEBALL: Moeller, HBPs lift A’s over Cubs
Collin Moeller didn’t wear a cape during Sunday’s best-of-three finale between the homestanding Pipestone Athletics and Worthington Cubs. Still, Moeller played the role of hero — lacing a three-run single to deep center field scoring Keegan O’Brien, Landon Quist and Greg Quist as the Athletics topped the Cubs, 5-4, in this Region 13C first-round rubber game.

Baltic 16U Splits Two Games on Same Night
The Baltic 16U team had two games on Wednesday, July 24th. They played Canton and Flandreau, winning one and losing one. Joey Grunewaldt threw all five innings and allowed just one hit and two walks while striking out six in the 7-0 victory. Baltic scored single runs in the first three innings for a 3-0 lead. They then had a four-run fourth inning to get the win.
Tjaden, Phils Shut Down Madison in Region 2B
The Dell Rapids Phils put themselves in a great position in the Region 2B Tournament after a 6-1 win over Madison on Thursday, July 25th. Tad Tjaden dazzled on the mound throwing six innings and allowing an unearned run on two hits and three walks with 11 strikeouts. The offense helped in just about every inning of the game. Dell Rapids scored two runs in the first for a 2-0 lead. They added single runs in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to go ahead 6-0. Madison got on the board with a run in the bottom of the sixth. Konrad Richael pitched the bottom of the seventh and recorded two strikeouts to close out the win.
Flandreau Has Big Rally to Beat Tri-Valley Maroon 16U
Tri-Valley Maroon 16U had a four-run lead going into the bottom of the seventh, but Flandreau scored five times to get a 10-9 win on Monday, July 22nd. Flandreau scored a run in the bottom of the first for a 1-0 lead. Tri-Valley took a 2-1 lead with two runs in the top of the second. Flandreau responded with two in the bottom of the inning for a 3-2 lead. Tri-Valley tied the game with a run in the top of the fourth. They went ahead 6-3 with three runs in the top of the fifth. Flandreau cut the lead to 6-5 with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Tri-Valley would add two runs in the sixth and another in the seventh for a 9-5 lead before Flandreau’s five-run bottom of the seventh.

West Central 16U Cruises Past Baltic 16U
The Baltic 16U team traveled to Humboldt to take on West Central on Monday, July 22nd. West Central got the win by a score of 11-1. Two big innings early in the game helped West Central to the win. Baltic scored a run in the top of the first inning, but it was all West Central after that. They scored five runs in the bottom of the first and four more in the second for a 9-1 lead. Two more runs were scored in the bottom of the fifth to end the game on the 10-run rule.
