DPS: Second victim identified in deadly Edinburg crash

EDINBURG, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a four-vehicle crash that left two dead.

A release from Texas DPS stated that the incident occurred at 9:43 a.m. on Tuesday near FM 907 and Texas Road.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a red Ford Escape, that was driven by a woman and one other passenger, was traveling eastbound on Texas Road.

Simultaneously, a red Nissan Versa was driving southbound on FM 907 and a brown Cadillac SRX, driven by a man, was heading northbound on FM 907.

DPS say the driver of the Ford Escape failed to yield at the stop sign and collided with the Nissan Versa.

The Nissan then side-swiped the Cadillac, causing it to veer off to the southeast corner of FM 907 and Texas Road, engulfing it in flames, the release stated.

The Ford Escape veered off the roadway onto the southeast corner of Texas and FM 907, where it crashed into a utility pole, causing the passenger to be ejected from the vehicle. During the incident, the Ford also hit a parked, unoccupied Ford Econoline van.

The driver of the Nissan was identified as 29-year-old Edinburg resident, Sergio Delgado, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and passenger of the Ford Escape were taken to a local hospital. The driver suffered major injuries, whereas the passenger, identified as Jeremy John Hess, 43 of Wisconsin succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Cadillac was also taken to the local hospital with injuries.

DPS Troopers are further investigating this fatal crash.
