Brodhead/Juda led Edgerton by eight in the fourth inning, but had to fight off a late charge from the host Crimson Tide to win a high-scoring Rock Valley baseball game 15-14 Tuesday night.

The teams combined for 28 hits, with 15 by the Cardinals.

Brodhead/Juda scored three runs in each of the first two innings only to have Edgerton tie it with six in the bottom of the second.

The Cardinals tallied once in the third and then put up seven in the fourth. Edgerton chipped away with a pair in the fifth. The Cardinals answered with an all-important run in the sixth as Brooks Malkow scored on a wild pitch because the Crimson Tide scored three times in both the sixth and seventh innings.

After Edgerton drew within a run on a two-run, two-out single by Olin Zellmer in the bottom of the seventh, Brodhead/Juda went to reliever Evan Senobe to retire Ethan Stengel on a grounder to second base to end the game.

Malkow led the Cardinals’ attack, going 2-for-4 with three runs batted in. Colton Kurt led Edgerton with a 3-for-5 day.
