June 11 State Primary Election
Voting for various offices in the State Primary Election at the local town offices on Tuesday, June 11 will be held from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. According to Maine.gov, a voter not enrolled in a political party may participate in a party's primary without enrolling in the party. An unenrolled voter may vote in only one primary election. NOTE: A voter enrolled in a party will receive the ballot for that party – Democrat, Green Independent (Congressional District 1 only) or Republican.
Pride flag draws mixed reviews in Southport
As Pride Month is celebrated this month, the Southport selectboard is receiving both positive and negative remarks about the Gay Pride banner hanging near the municipal building. During the June 5 board meeting, selectmen read two correspondences from citizens regarding the town’s participation. Selectmen read resident Bob Cronk’s response to their decision to hang a Pride banner outside the town hall for June and enact a municipal proclamation supporting Pride Month. Cronk disagrees with the board’s decision. On June 6, Selectman Gerry Gamage reported Cronk wrote he didn’t think it was appropriate for a governmental agency to take a public stand on a controversial issue.

Man charged in Edgecomb crash has July dispo hearing
A July 8 disposition hearing is set for the Boothbay man charged in regard to a Feb. 8 head-on collision on Route 27 in Edgecomb. Alexander Nielsen, 33, was charged with operating under the influence after his vehicle collided with another. Later, more charges were approved by the court: aggravated assault, Class B; aggravated OUI, Class C; reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, Class C; and driving to endanger, Class C.

Call for art: For ‘Land and Sea’ show
River Arts in Damariscotta invites artists to submit work to a juried show “Land & Sea.” The deadline for entry is Saturday, June 29 at 4 p.m. The theme “Land & Sea” is open to personal interpretation by the artists and may include realistic as well as abstract works.
