Wiscasset names Chase interim CEO
Wiscasset has named George Chase interim code enforcement officer. Selectmen voted 5-0 over Zoom Wednesday night, May 15. Chase is CEO for Edgecomb, Damariscotta and Newscastle, Wiscasset Town Manager Dennis Simmons said. Wiscasset’s proposed memo of understanding with Chase noted the job is temporary and he will be paid according to the town’s February 2023 collective bargaining agreement with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW).

Maine Art Gallery’s current show, “Generations: The Legacy of Mentors,” celebrates the relationship between aspiring artists and their mentors. It also exemplifies each mentor’s impact on the mentee’s work, years and decades later. The opening reception on May 4 drew 250 people! That’s got to be some kind of record, right there. The show features two works by the artist and two works by the mentor. This column focuses on Marguerite Robichaux and her mentor Tom Cavanaugh.

Board signs warrant for June 11 primary vote and for RSU 1 budget
Woolwich selectmen signed the warrant for the June 11 primary election that will include consideration of the 2024-25 Regional School Unit 1 budget. A final district-wide meeting for ratification of the proposed $43.83 million budget is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 28 at Morse High School. Woolwich’s proposed share of the budget is $5,028,744, a 6.74% increase from last year.
Register for kids’ Creative Flow Circle May 19 at Merry Barn
On Sunday, May 19, kids ages 8-14, with or without their favorite adults, are invited to a special Creative Flow Circle at Merry Barn Writers’ Retreat. Morgan Mitchell, creatress and flowcilitator, and Stephanie McSherry, executive director of the Merry Barn Writers’ Retreat, will guide kids in “moving color” to instrumental music, across a circle of easels.
Edgecomb returns to annual town meeting May 18
Edgecomb will hold its first municipal and school budget town meeting in five years on May 18. In 2020, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Gov. Janet Mills issued a state of emergency restricting public meetings. Edgecomb and other communities complied with the health precaution by holding a referendum town meeting vote with residents voting on all warrant articles by ballot.
