Welcome home Dolly, a century-old Broadway piano finds a new home in Rosendale
A century-old baby grand piano with a storied Broadway past is about to take center stage again, this time in the intimate surroundings of The Muse, Rosendale's community-centered home for music and the arts. The Muse will present, “Welcome Home, Dolly!,” a three-hour musical celebration featuring a parade of pianists and fellow musicians exploring the remarkable range and character of its newest resident, 3-6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, at the Muse, 1 Madeline Lane, Rosendale. Affectionately named Dolly, the piano accompanied the original Broadway cast of “Hello, Dolly!” during the Carol Channing years, 1964–1970. More than a century after she was built and following an extensive restoration by Hudson Valley master piano restorer, tuner, and pianist Michael Schirmer, Dolly has found a permanent home at The Muse, thanks to Schirmer's generous donation.
