Main Street Traffic Rerouting in Hyannis Due to Sewer Construction Starting February 26
The Town of Barnstable has announced changes to traffic on Main Street, Hyannis, due to sewer construction. The work is being done by RJV Construction Corporation as part of the 725 Main Street Sewer Pump Station Project. Starting Monday, February 26, 2024, a detour will be in place for eastbound traffic from the West End Rotary to Sea Street Extension.

That's because the bays at the firehouse at 3249 Main St. are too small to fit the typical apparatus in use today — vehicles that are longer, wider and taller by several feet than the vehicles used in 1935, when the station was built.

At least it’s fishing show season, because there hasn’t been much to look forward to otherwise. It was yet another week of fishing limbo for anglers on Cape Cod, and at this point, when the sun is out for more than two consecutive days, you can feel the restlessness of fishermen in the air as spring teases itself. It looks like air temps will continue to dip well below freezing through the weekend, but there is a silver lining; from Monday to Thursday of next week, we’ve got a four day stretch of temps climbing as high as 55 degrees. Can you say BASS?
DRIVER CITED AFTER THREE-CAR CRASH AT BASSETT & STEVENS [HN PHOTOS]
Top HN photo: A Barnstable Police patrolwoman can be heard explaining a traffic citation to one of the drivers involved in a three-car collision earlier today. HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – Barnstable Police squad cars responded to a three-car crash at the intersection of Bassett Lane and Stevens Street at around noon today. According to radio transmissions, four people were evaluated by Hyannis Rescue, but there were no serious injuries, and nobody was transported. The intersection of Bassett and Stevens is a four-way stop. It is notorious for frequent crashes ranging from minor to serious. Today’s crash was moderate, and two of the three vehicles needed to be towed from the scene. The Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit assisted with photographs. The male driver of one of the involved vehicles apparently received a traffic citation on scene.
Four people evaluated after crash at Hyannis intersection
HYANNIS – Just after noon Thursday there was a three-vehicle crash at Stevens Street and Bassett Lane in Hyannis. Four parties were evaluated at the scene. Free Bus Fares for Seniors and Disabled Residents Now Available through CCRTA
The Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority (CCRTA) will offer free fares for people over 60 and those with disabilities. This initiative, starting on February 1, 2024, covers all fixed bus routes in Cape Cod's fifteen towns. A grant of $506,758 from MassDOT funded the 'Older Adults and Persons with a Disability Fixed Route Free Fare Program.'

Provincetown Residents Invited to Discuss Route 6 Multi-Use Path and Parking Changes
Provincetown is studying the feasibility of a new Multi-Use Path and extra municipal parking along Route 6. The proposed path would extend from Shank Painter Road to the Truro town line. It aims to enhance the bicycle and pedestrian network on the Outer Cape. The path would link the Cape Cod Rail Trail to the Cape Cod National Seashore at Herring Cove. This plan is based on recommendations from previous studies.
