Cobwebs and dust overhead food prep area: York County restaurant inspections, May 28, 2024
The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, 866-366-3723, uses a risk-based inspection reporting process for restaurants and other food handlers. Dollar Tree # 06779, 110 Old York Rd. Suite 214, New Cumberland, May 18. Fail. The Person in Charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. Observed numerous cases of food items stored directly on the floor in through-out the store and stock room areas, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Observed small Pepsi cooler leaking from the bottom on to the floor in the customer aisles at the registers and is in need of repair. Observed too numerous to mention or count single-service, single-use articles stored in store area and stock area stored directly on the floor, and not 6 inches above the floor. Waste receptacle in the employee men’s room is overflowing onto the floor and in need of emptying. Women’s toilet room is not provided with a covered waste receptacle for sanitary napkins. Toilet rooms are not completely enclosed with a tight fitting door. Stall door is off of the hinges and leaning against toilet. Observed rear emergency exit door located in the back of the store of the food facility is rusted at the bottom causing a gap and does not protect against the entry of insects, rodents, and other animals. Paper towel dispenser empty at the hand-wash sink in the employee area. Corrected on sight.

Snapping turtle season: Tips from experts during nesting months
PENNSYLVANIA, USA — Just last week, a students at a Lancaster preschool got an unexpected visitor for World Turtle Day: a large snapping turtle in the parking lot!. Experts with Forgotten Friend Reptile Sanctuary found the turtle chilling out under a car near the front door of the school and were able to redirect the confused creature back to a wetland area.
