Civil trial launches for former veterans' charity manager
WENATCHEE — Jury selection began today in a Chelan County civil trial against Thelbert "Thad" Lawson Jr. and his former veterans-service charity. The Washington Attorney General’s office says Lawson violated the civil rights of at least a dozen women who worked in or visited the Veterans Warehouse Thrift Store, which Lawson formerly operated under the umbrella of his nonprofit agency, Operation Veterans Assistance & Humanitarian Aid. The state's lawsuit, filed in 2022, alleges Lawson sexually harassed and discriminated against at least 10 women who worked for the business as well as others who visited.
