EAST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — East Haven has started removing a historic gazebo that was “beyond repair,” according to the town.

The gazebo on the East Haven Town Green was damaged by decades of weather and use, the town announced on Monday, and will be temporarily replaced by a stage loaned from North Haven.

“I appreciate First Selectman Mike Freda of North Haven for allowing The Town of East Haven to utilize North Haven’s Mobile Stage during this transitional period,” East Haven Mayor Joseph Carfora said in a written statement. “Mike and I collaborate often on many issues, and this is a wonderful example. I am grateful for our ability to cooperate and support each other.”

A new gazebo will be built after the fall concert series. Its construction is being funded through the American Rescue Plan Act.

“The arrival of our new gazebo marks a significant milestone in the ongoing revitalization of our beloved East Haven Town Green,” Carfora wrote. “I am thrilled by the prospect of seeing this beautiful addition take shape, and I am confident that it will serve as a source of pride and joy for generations to come.”
