The East Bend YVEDDI Senior Center, located at 473 East Main St., is partnering with Novant Health to offer mobile mammogram screenings. The event is scheduled for Thursday, May 2 with appointments available between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

This is the first time the Senior Center has offered this service, but Manager Heather Handy said she hopes it will become an annual event.

Early detection is the best defense against cancer. The American College of Radiology recommends that women over 40 have an annual mammogram.

Novant Health’s mobile mammography unit will be offering state of the art digital, 3D mammography, expert team of technologists, on-site convenience with the luxury and privacy of a traditional imaging center. Screening mammograms are covered as preventive care under most insurance plans. For your convenience, Novant will file a claim with your provider on your behalf. The minimum age for a screening mammogram on the mobile is 35 years of age recommended by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

An appointment is required. Please contact Heather Handy at 336-699-5100 to schedule an appointment.

This spring and summer, the East Bend Senior Center is also partnering with The Farm in Dobson to bring a monthly produce sale to the center. Events are planned for May 6, June 3, July 8 and Aug. 5. The Farm will have strawberries for sale next month, blackberries and peaches in June and additional summer produce selections in July and August.
