East Bend Mayor James Dunn, Forbush Middle School Principal Walter Johnson, Marine Corps League Detachment 1075 Commandant Lewis Pleasants, of Boonville, and East Bend businessman Alex Nelson all played roles at the Second Annual Veterans Cup Trivia Night fundraiser.

Veterans Cup hosts and promotes weekly coffees to build peer-to-peer support networks to redirect Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) and prevent suicide.

GOP 10th District Nominee Pat Harrigan’s team finished second, ably assisted by East Bend Mayor James Dunn. The Forsyth County Trivia Troop finished first at the Trivia Night besting 23 other teams. Principal Walter Johnson presided as one of the four judges. Retired Army Command Sergeant Major Alex Nelson, the organizer of the Veterans Cup Trivia Night, who is also a major sponsor through his company Old Town Gymnastics said “Saturday’s Trivia Night was lots of fun had by all.”

The next Veterans Cup Trivia Night is scheduled for Saturday, March 1, 2025.

Veterans Cup Executive Director Sandy Whitaker, the widow of a Navy Seal, is grateful for the support local organizations have given the non-profit. This support includes Attorney Harold Eustache, Pond Country, PDC, First Bank, Concerned Veterans for America, Atlas Firearms, the Louisa Whitaker Trust, Krispy Kreme, the Old 4th Street Filling Station, Old Vineyard Behavioral Health, the mayors of Winston-Salem, East Bend and Rural Hall, Congressional nominee Pat Harrigan and the Marine Corps League Detachment 1075 who run the massive regional Toys for Tots program.

“This support helps us effectively reach under served veterans. In so doing, we can bridge generations of veterans one cup at time,” said Whitaker.
