'Energizing our students for a brighter future' theme of Palmetto Electric Annual Meeting
RIDGELAND, SC – 4,933 members registered and voted at Palmetto Electric Cooperative’s 2024 Annual Meeting, and the fun-filled event was once again a success. Drive-thru registration and voting were held May 2, 3, and 4 at the co-op’s Ridgeland office. Members were able to drive-thru, register and cast a vote for the Board of Directors election. Palmetto Electric employees were on hand to distribute registration gifts and assist members with any questions.

Walterboro Lions Club hold Monthly Meeting
The Walterboro Lions Club held its monthly meeting on May 8th at 1:00 PM. The meeting held at Dukes Bar B Que was called to order by Vice President Bob Pence. The meeting began with the singing of “My County tis of Thee” and the Pledge of Allegiance followed by prayer. David Dodd introduced the guest speaker Shawn Lyons of Coastal Electric Cooperative. The group also heard an update on the Rice Festival and heard a review of the Lion’s eye screening program.
Polaris Tech Charter School elects new board members
Polaris Tech Charter School in Ridgeland held an election April 23-25 which allowed staff and enrolled families to vote for its board of directors. Polaris Tech is a state-approved, tuition-free charter school serving kindergarten through high school students from Jasper, Beaufort, Hampton and Colleton counties. The school is located on Grays Highway, directly across from the Ridgeland Claude Dean Airport.
Hunting Island State Park has first turtle nests of season
The Friends of Hunting Island Sea Turtle Conservation Project found their first two nests of the season on Monday, May, 13. In addition to the two successful nests, there have been two false crawls, which is when a turtle starts to crawl onto the beach, but something spooks it and causes it to return to the water without laying eggs.
Anderson from Wayne Brothers Companies visits CCHS
Mr. Jaime Andersen with Wayne Brothers has partnered with CCHS Career Center to offer careers within their company. Mr. Andersen spoke with some Seniors and shared his career path as he ran a company and built experience as he climbed up the ladder. Mr. Andersen was asked by Wayne Brothers to come work for them where he serves as a Training Instructor. He teachers OSHA in English and Spanish, and he also teaches job-site safety. Wayne Brothers has a specialty as a concrete company, engineering, civil industrial, concrete carpenters, and site prep. Wayne Brothers is known to set the groundwork to build facilities, such as the Google facility. Our CCHS graduates are encouraged to apply today if they are interested in these career opportunities and going straight into the workforce after graduation.
