Juvenile killed, woman injured in shooting, North Carolina police say

DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – A juvenile is dead and a woman is hurt after a shooting occurred in the area of W. Umstead Street and South Street in Durham late Tuesday night, police said.

According to the Durham Police Department, officers responded at around 9:54 p.m. to the report of gunshots near South Street. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a juvenile male who had been shot, as well as a woman also suffering from a gunshot wound, police said.

EMS crews transported both victims to a nearby hospital, which is where the juvenile ultimately died, according to Durham police. The woman’s injuries are not considered life-threatening, police said.

“Investigators are on the scene determining the circumstances surrounding this incident,” according to a news release from the Durham Police Department.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and this appears to be an isolated incident.
