Police are looking for the person who shot an N.C Central University student found after his car crashed into two others Thursday afternoon in western Durham.

Officers responded to the crash on Rose Garden Lane, just north of Old Chapel Hill Road and east of Interstate 40, around 3:30 p.m.

They found 22-year-old Myles Amadi Gresham, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, who had been shot, in a car that had crashed into two parked, unoccupied vehicles.

Emergency medical services workers tried to save Gresham’s life, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

NCCU chancellor expresses sadness

NCCU Chancellor Johnson O. Akinleye expressed sadness and announced counseling services in connection with the senior business administration major’s death

“Myles ... was a dedicated student with entrepreneurial aspirations. He diligently selected his courses each semester, aiming for a path toward future success,” Akinleye said on the university’s website. “Actively involved in campus life, Myles served as treasurer of the Metro Eagles Club [a track and field club]. His friendly nature and enthusiasm for the Wordle game will always bring forth smiles from those who had the pleasure of knowing him.”

“Please keep his family, friends, professors and classmates in your thoughts and prayers” the chancellor said.

The crash happened at Lenox at Patterson Place apartments , reported ABC11, The News & Observer’s newsgathering partner.

Police have not said if they think Gresham was shot there or shot somewhere else and drove until he crashed there.

2nd shooting of an NCCU student this month

This is the second shooting of an NCCU student this month. That student, who survived, was treated at the hospital and released.

Campus police have arrested six students, charging all of them with conspiracy to commit armed robbery, in the April 2 shooting in Lawson Street Residence Hall . The student who was shot was among those who were charged.

None of those arrested has been charged with the actual shooting, however, and the university said it anticipates further arrests.

The university still has not said what happened that night. The News & Observer obtained 911 calls from the incident, but they do not clarify the events, other than to say where the student was shot.

An NCCU spokesman said Friday the university has not been advised of any connection between the two shooting incidents.
