Residents asked to weigh on on AEP's transmission project in four counties

COLUMBUS − Residents, landowners and community leaders have an opportunity to help shape a major electric infrastructure project aimed at strengthening reliability and supporting future economic growth in central and eastern Ohio. American Electric Power is gathering public feedback through Oct. 28 on a proposed transmission line project spanning Fairfield, Licking, Muskingum and Coshocton counties. This will help determine the best route based on public feedback and feasibility. "The project was identified through PJM Interconnection's regional planning process and is designed to strengthen the transmission grid, increase transmission capacity and support future economic development and energy investments in Ohio," said Stephanie Eisenberg of AEP. "Without additional infrastructure, system stress could increase during high demand and raise the risk of service interruptions." Project basics The project includes upgrading approximately 50 miles of existing transmission infrastructure originally built in the 1970s with modern steel structures and constructing up to 14 miles of new transmission line to connect with the proposed West Millersport substation on Lancaster-Newark Road. More information on the substation and a proposed new substation in Conesville will be provided at a later date, as they are in early stages of development.
