Centennial Lecture ignites Inauguration Week at Delta State University
CLEVELAND, Miss. — Delta State University kicked off a week of events leading up to the inauguration of its ninth president, Dr. Daniel J. Ennis, with a Centennial Lecture on Monday, February 19 to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the introduction of the legislation that led to the school’s creation. Given that February 19 was also the national observance of Presidents Day, the federal holiday devoted to honoring our nation’s presidents, the Centennial Lecture recognized the previous Delta State presidents and their enduring impact on the university through the years. The investiture ceremony to officially inaugurate Ennis as Delta State’s ninth president will be held on Saturday, February 24 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bologna Performing Arts Center.
DSU Alumni Association announces dates for Pig Pickin’ and Homecoming
CLEVELAND, Miss. — Delta State University’s National Alumni Association has announced the dates for two of its signature events—Pig Pickin’ and Homecoming. The 38th Annual Pig Pickin’ will take place September 6-7 at Statesmen Park. Pig Pickin’ was established in 1985 by Hugh Ellis Walker, along with the rest of the Alumni-Foundation staff. That year, alumni and friends gathered around Shumate Park to celebrate the first home football game of the season, and literally picked a pig to eat as they enjoyed fellowship prior to the game. As a result, Pig Pickin’ was created and has become one of the most popular events on campus.

Craft Signs With Delta State
Bayou Academy senior forward/center Thomas Craft has decided to continue his basketball career on the collegiate level as he signed with Delta State University on Jan. 31. Craft has been a force for the Colts since his eighth grade year and has made the All-District Team four straight years. Craft was named District 1-4A Co Player of the Year as a freshman in 2021. He’s helped lead Bayou to the state tournament three times (4A 2020, 5A 2021, 2022) with one trip to the Overall Tournament (2022). Craft has been the driving force for the Colts this year as they were 18-9 as of press time and the third seeded team from District 1 heading into Midsouth Association of Independent Schools 5A Boys North State Basketball Tournament which was set to begin on Tuesday (Feb. 6) at Cleveland. Craft’s terrific play during his career has him as the school’s all-time leader in career points with 1,948.
