Somewhere in the Blue Ridge foothills of South Carolina, there’s a place that operates like the modern world forgot to send it a memo, and honestly, thank goodness for that. Pumpkintown General Store in Pickens, South Carolina is the kind of spot that makes you slow your car down, squint at the sign, and then pull over because something in your gut tells you this is exactly where you need to be right now.

International markets can be a good place to find foods you don’t always find at traditional supermarkets. Shopper Latoya Edwards at the Asia Pacific Super Market said discovering new products is part of the fun. While browsing the snack aisle, she picked up seaweed snacks, a favorite of her daughter's, and a frozen ice cream treat she had spotted on TikTok. “It's like another whole city that it's coming from,” Edwards said while looking over imported items. Many of these grocery stores skip the large distribution systems and work with independent farms, cultural wholesalers, or specialty importers. This gives shoppers access to a wider variety of ingredients, including fresh produce, seafood, and specialty cuts of meat. Walk into any of these stores, and you'll find fresh herbs and spices that aren't always available at mainstream supermarkets. You want dessert? No problem. Let your taste buds explore the different regions with sweet treats unique to each country’s culture, from chewy Japanese mochi to fresh tres leches, baklava and dates, rich Napoleon cake, and Caribbean candies and desserts. Sometimes the dessert aisle is the easiest place to start exploring something new. The whole point is variety. You may walk in looking for
