Though I was by no means a brilliant protege, I was obsessed with chess for a period as a child. Now I knew the detailed game pieces were just carved stone, and the board was simply a series of bi-colored squares. But once my imagination got a hold of the game, the pieces became stoic knights and the board a battlefield of epic proportions.
A ‘completely different game’
The Lady Dogie soccer team finished up their season last week with contests in Douglas on Tuesday and at home against Buffalo on Friday. Although head coach Cami Willyard’s crew played hard, they couldn’t get past the Lady Bearcats or the Lady Bison, dropping both games by scores of 0-6.

Final Test Before Regionals: Nearly three dozen season, personal bests recorded in Thermopolis
It was suppose to be a busy final week of the regular season for the Glenrock High School track & field team with athletes split into separate events. That didn’t happen but what did take place was the most season and personal bests of the season in one day May 3 at the Bobcat Invite in Thermopolis.

The regular season for high school track and field wrapped up over the weekend with several meets. The annual SEWAC Meet was held in Glenrock this year and the Lingle-Fort Laramie girls placed 1st in the team standings with 147 points, Burns was 2nd with 112.5, Southeast 3rd with 105, Lusk 4th with 101 and Pine Bluffs was 5th with 70.50.

Unapproved Special City Council Meeting Minutes May 2, 2024. CALL TO ORDER/PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE/ROLL CALL: Mayor Pexton called the meeting to order at approximately 3:32 p.m. Roll call was taken with the following City Council members present: Mayor Kim Pexton via phone; Councilperson Ron McNare via phone; Councilperson Perry Hershberger via phone; and Councilperson Matt Schmidt in person. Also present: JD Cox, City Manager via phone; Mike Armstrong, City Attorney via phone; Todd Byerly, Chief of Police via phone; Mary Nicol, Administrative Services Director/Treasurer in person; Kendal Detwiler, Human Resources Director in person. Council Action Items: Resolution 2024-14: A Resolution Establishing an Open Container District Within the Local Downtown Historic District and Guidelines For Enforcement Within Said District: Director Nicol provided an overview and answered questions. Councilperson Hershberger moved to approve Resolution 2024-14 as presented. Councilperson Schmidt seconded. Motion carried 4-0. Adjourn: Councilperson Hershberger moved to adjourn the Special City Council meeting of May 2, 2024. Councilperson McNare seconded. Motion carried 4-0.
