DETROIT (WWJ) -- Just in time for the NFL Draft, a Detroit staple is back from the ashes.

Nearly one year ago to the day, a fire -- and the ensuing water damage -- closed Supino Pizzeria in Eastern Market. Now, the popular pizza shop is reopening its doors on Tuesday, April 23 for carry-out services.

On April 24, 2023, a fire broke out in the residential apartment above Supino’s , which is located on Russell Street near the E Fisher Service Drive.

WWJ’s Mike Campbell spoke with Supino’s Executive Chef Michael Mike Mazzola, who said after a lot of work this past year, they finally have what they need to start making pizzas again — including a brand new kitchen.

“We’ll be selling pizza by the slice, whole pies, we’ll have it all for you today,” Mazzola said.

Supino's takeout hours will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday through Saturday.

But the work continues, and Chef Mazzallo said the goal is to have their dining room up and running for customers in time for Flower Day is Eastern Market, which is set for Sunday, May 19.
