Two people have been arrested in Humboldt County, Nevada on charges of elder abuse, drug offenses, and fraud. The investigation began after receiving information about a 65-year-old man who was potentially a victim of financial fraud. It was discovered that the elderly man was being isolated from his family and subjected to fraud, elder abuse, and theft. The suspects, Dawson Barnes (56) and Savannah Wilson (36), both from Orovada, were identified by the police.
Lake Tahoe Homicide Suspect Extradited from Humboldt to Placer County on Friday
On Friday, a North Lake Tahoe homicide suspect was extradited from Humboldt County, Nevada. Placer County Sheriff Transportation Unit deputies traveled to Humboldt County to pick up 49-year-old Daniel Serafini that morning. He arrived in Placer County at 11 a.m. and was booked into the Auburn Jail shortly after his arrival.

On Oct. 3, detectives with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office received information that a 65-year-old man was possibly the victim of financial fraud. After an investigation was launched, it was determined an elderly man was being isolated from his family while being the victim of fraud, elder abuse, and theft.

School board split over matching incentive funds to administrators
Historically, the Humboldt County School District has provided equitable salary raises to administrators, classified staff and certified staff across the district. However, Senate Bill 231, passed during the last legislative session, purposely excludes administration from the raises given to educators from the state for the next two years, thus pushing the decision to provide raises to all school district staff to the Humboldt County School District (HCSD) Board of Trustees. Funds would have been shifted from the General Fund to cover those raises.
