Volusia-Flagler High School Athlete of the Week poll: March 25

The polls are open!

It's time to vote for the Volusia-Flagler Athlete of the Week for the week of March 18-23. Athletes for all in-season sports are eligible.

Last week, Matanzas baseball player Nick Pandich took home the honors, claiming 24% of the votes.

The News-Journal gathers nominees from scores and stats emailed to the sports desk during the week by coaches across the area. Coaches can email nominees to cvinel@gannett.com.

Voting will close at 10 a.m. Thursday. Votes are restricted to once per device per hour.

Baseball

Westin Brownlee, Father Lopez: The freshman collected three hits and three RBI in a 6-4 victory over Seabreeze.

Brody Kelly, New Smyrna Beach: The senior pitched seven innings of two-run ball in a 6-2 win over Spruce Creek. He allowed only three hits and one walk.

Flag football

Tashia Williams, DeLand: The sophomore threw for 119 yards and both of the Bulldogs' touchdowns during their shutout of University.

Softball

Lauren Cruz, Mainland: The senior tallied three hits in four trips to the plate and knocked in four runs in a rout of Seabreeze.

Alexis Laura, Flagler Palm Coast: The senior did not allow a hit while striking out five batters in five innings against Seabreeze. She also had two hits and drove in a team-high three runs.

Tennis

Ava Epps, New Smyrna Beach: The junior won in No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles against Father Lopez. Her season record improved to 7-4 and 6-4 in those respective categories.

Track and field

Kwasie Kwaku, Atlantic: The senior won the 200-meter dash in 22.53 seconds and placed second in the 100-meter dash (11.29) at the Deltona Wolves Spectacular.

Mackenzie Roy, Spruce Creek: The junior finished sixth in the 800-meter race at the FSU Relays, setting a new school record time of 2:14.94. She also claimed fourth in the 1,600-meter (5:00.25) and helped the Hawks win the 4X800-meter relay.
