Illegal narcotics, stolen property lands two Topeka men behind bars in Shawnee County
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Illegal narcotics and stolen property landed two Topeka men behind bars in Shawnee County. Officials with the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were dispatched shortly before 8:10 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4 in the 6600 block of SE Berryton Rd. regarding unknown subjects removing items from the property. Before deputies arrived, the subjects were seen leaving in a white Chevrolet Tahoe pulling a trailer. A vehicle matching that description was located and stopped in the 600 block of SW Gary Ormsby Dr. a short time later.

Just after 1 p.m. June 5, an officer with the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office located a gold 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee in the 2300 block of SW Van Buren Street. The vehicle had been reported stolen out of the City of Topeka, according to Deputy Abigail Christian.

"To better utilize capacity and ensure alignment with the company’s long-term strategy, Caterpillar Inc. today notified its workforce at its Wamego, Kansas, facility that it will close in mid- 2025. This facility manufactures work tools and attachments. The company will support employees during this transition."
