Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at the Middle Creek United Methodist Church with Pastor Gwen Bohlke officiating, in rural Redwood Falls with burial to follow in the Middle Creek Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2024, all at the Middle Creek United Methodist Church.
Man arrested after attempting "suicide by cop" Sunday near Prinsburg
(Prinsburg MN-) The Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Department says last weekend a rural Prinsburg man tried to commit suicide by cop but was unsuccessful, and now faces assault charges. The incident began around 450 p.m. Sunday when the sheriff's office got a call of a suicidal man with a handgun at a home on 105th Avenue Southwest, south of Prinsburg. Dispatchers convinced the man to go outside the home, away from other people inside, and when deputies arrived, they tried to get the man to drop the gun and walk to them, but instead the man pointed the gun at deputies and told the dispatcher he wanted the officers to shoot him. Eventually he dropped the gun and was arrested. After being checked out at CentraCare Rice Hospital in Willmar, he was arrested and now faces assault charges. No one was injured in the incident.

EAB DISCOVERED IN RENVILLE COUNTY
The Minnesota Department of Agriculture has detected the presence of Emerald Ash Borer in Renville County for the first time. According to the DNR and U.S Forest Service, large infestations of EAB were found in Danube along Highway 212. The MDA is enacting the emergency quarantines of Renville County which will limit the movement of firewood, mulch and all ash material out of the affected areas. EAB was also found in Pine County bringing the total number of counties with EAB to 50.

As the end of February approaches, so does the close of Black History Month. Black History Month is represented throughout the month of February, and is recognized nationwide.This month is dedicated to recognizing the black community and acknowledging hardships and racial injustices they have overcome. Here at Park, Black History Month is barely talked about. The Echo Editorial Board believes Park should be doing a far better job at acknowledging the month and doing things to celebrate it.

Babbit man has settlement conference on stalking charges in Renville County Monday
(Olivia MN-) A settlement conference takes place Monday (1 pm) for a Babbit man charged with harassment, stalking and violating a no contact order for allegedly repeatedly contacting an ex-girlfriend in Renville County. The five charges against 34-year-old Nathan Ethen cover a time period of June 13th through July 7th in which he reportedly left phone and text messages for a rural Hector woman. He also reportedly left a bag of snack mix on her porch as a message, and even allegedly put a tracking device on her pickup truck.

Trojans take part in Redwood Valley HS speech meet
The Worthington High School speech team competed once again at a meet in Redwood Falls this past weekend. Among the Trojans who excelled was Alondra Leon Flores, who was first in original oratory. Oher placers include Auxtin Kinser, second in extemporaneous reading; Cameron Kinser, fifth in extemporaneous speaking; and Jay Chavez, eighth in extemporaneous reading.
Warriors advance to next round in Section 2A
(Olivia, MN) -- The BOLD Warriors girl’s basketball team hosted the ACGC Falcons Monday night for Section 2A playoffs. The Warriors went on to win by a final score of 57-38. The Falcons quickly started off with the lead but by the end of the first half, The Warriors took the lead over and lead 23-20 over the Falcons.
Redwood Falls man sentenced for attacking police officers with knife
A Redwood Falls man, Nicholas Yongshik Anderson, age 37. was sentenced in Redwood County Court after attacking two police officers with a knife last summer. According to court documents, on July 27, Redwood Falls police officers were called to a report of a man in the vicinity of North Swain Street yelling to himself and saying someone’s legs were going to be broken. Officers located Anderson, and as one officer was exiting the squad car, Anderson rushed him with a knife, reportedly saying, “You were told not to come!”

Ben Potter and Brooklyn Sturm have earned the 2024 Triple ‘A’ Awards at Springfield High School. The Academics, Arts, and Athletic Award (Triple “A” Award) is sponsored by the Minnesota State High School League. The purpose of the program is to recognize and honor high school seniors who have excelled in the classroom, on the athletic field, and in the fine arts. The nomination criteria for the award includes a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, participation in MSHSL-sponsored athletics and fine arts activities, compliance with the MSHSL’s Student Code of Conduct and completion of an application form that includes an essay.
Springfield takes down Loyola boys basketball in regular season finale
MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - The Mankato Loyola Crusaders hosted the Springfield Tigers for some boys basketball action Tuesday evening. The Tigers defeated the Crusaders 74-66. Springfield will host Madelia and Loyola will host GHEC/T/ML in the Section 2A tournament March 5.
