Thistle be fun: Artichoke Festival celebrates prickly produce in Monterey this weekend
One of the state’s proudest crops will take center stage this weekend at the Artichoke Festival set for Saturday and Sunday in Monterey. Cooking demonstrations, live music and, of course, lots of artichoke dishes will be on hand at the Monterey County Fair and Event Center. There are also supplemental events, including a comedy show Friday night (“Thistle Be Funny,” the organizers promise).

How many people are going to park their car in Marina and get on a bus that travels just five miles to Seaside? (“Monterey-Salinas Transit’s proposed SURF! busway is hitting bumps in the road,” May 30-June 5.) The proposed MST SURF! busway cost is now $91.5 million and the current route plows right through Fort Ord Dunes State Park.

Engage Communication, a mission critical telecommunication solutions, announced its recent sponsorship to Hericane, an all women’s rowing team. Hericane announced that the team will be making a challenging journey from California to Hawaii in an effort to raise funds for community health.
