    Deerfield track breaks five school records, headed to state in 13 events as girls earn sectional title

    The Deerfield track and field season just keeps getting better and better.

    At the Division 3 Horicon Sectional, the Demons broke five school records, qualified for state in 13 events, won three events and the girls team won the sectional title on Thursday, May 23 at Horicon High School.

    On the girls side, the Demons qualified for state in eight events. Sophomore Emme Drobac broke two 45-year-old school records in the 1600 and 3200 meters.

    In the 1600, Drobac ran second overall at 5:07.37 and in the 3200, Drobac took second at 10:57.08.

    After setting a school record in the 100-meter hurdles earlier this season, junior Brianna Ament set a new mark at 15.77 seconds to finish third.

    Ament also set a new school record in the 300-meter hurdles, running second overall at 47.32 seconds.

    Sophomore Rylee Berryman won the high jump at five feet and four inches. Berryman also took first place in the triple jump with a mark of 35 feet and 6.5 inches.

    Junior Piper Ryan, senior Ella Arenz, junior McKenna Michel and freshman Madi Ledbury took second in the 4x800 relay at 9:52.40.

    Arenz, Ament, Ledbury and Berryman qualified for state with a fourth-place finish in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:14.69.

    Michel took fifth in the 3200 with a time of 12:05.95. In the 800 meter, Ryan (2:27.76) finished sixth and Arenz qualified for the event, but did not start.

    Berryman (16-3.25) scored seventh in the long jump. Michel also qualified in the 1600 but did not start.

    The boys qualified in five events. Senior Eli Key claimed the sectional championship in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing first at 15.01 seconds. In the 300-meter hurdles, Key took second at 41 seconds.

    The 4x800 relay team of freshman Brady Fleming, senior Cody Curtis, senior Robert Thompson and senior Martin Kimmel set a new school record at 8:18.26, taking fifth and qualifying for state.

    In the pole vault, senior Parker Howard qualified for state with a fourth-place finish at 11 feet and six inches.

    Also in the pole vault, sophomore Ruben Bach scored a mark of 11 feet and six inches to finish fifth, but Howard had the state tie-breaker on a number of jumps.

    Curtis qualified in the 400 meter with a fourth-place finish at 2:00.85, while Kimmel (2:05.50) finished sixth.

    The 4x400 relay team of Curtis, junior Wyatt Brattlie, Key and Kimmel placed seventh at 3:35.74. Freshman Lane Shortreed (11:09.94) ran 13th in the 3200 meter.

    The 4x200 relay team of Howard, sophomore Brayden Hein-Berdsley, junior Zack Hansen and Brattlie took 14th at 1:38.80. The same four runners also qualified in the 4x100, but did not start. Howard (12.01) ran 14th in the 100-meter dash.

    The girls team scored 72 points to win the sectional. The boys team finished fourth with 41 points.

    The WIAA Division 3 State Track and Field Championships will take place on Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1 at UW-La Crosse.

    Deerfield Regional

    The Deerfield track and field team qualified for sectionals in 20 events at the Deerfield Regional on Monday, May 20 at Deerfield High School.

    The boys team qualified in 10 events, taking third overall with 108 points. Marshall won the regional title with 146 points.

    Senior Eli Key won the 110-meter hurdles in 15.28 seconds. Key also qualified in the 300-meter hurdles, taking fourth at 43.19 seconds.

    In the pole vault, sophomore Ruben Bach (11-9) and senior Parker Howard (11-6) scored first and second.

    The 4x800 relay team of freshman Brady Fleming, senior Cody Curtis, senior Robert Thompson and senior Martin Kimmel placed second at 8:37.64. Curtis (2:03.10) and Kimmel (2:03.58) ran second and third in the 800 meter.

    Curtis, Kimmel, Key and Brattlie scored second in the 4x400 relay at 3:35.55. The 4x200 relay team of sophomore Brayden Hein-Berdsley, Howard, junior Wyatt Brattlie and junior Zack Hansen ran third at 1:36.03.

    Hein-Berdsley, Howard, Brattlie and Hansen took fourth in the 4x100 at 48.04 seconds. Howard (12.16) ran fourth in the 100-meter dash. Freshman Lane Shortreed (11:03.25) took fourth in the 3200 meter.

    The girls team also qualified in 10 events, winning the regional with 124 points. This is the third-straight season that the Demons have won a regional title.

    Sophomore Rylee Berryman broke a 22-year-old school record in the triple jump, taking first overall with a mark of 37 feet and 5.5 inches.

    Junior Piper Ryan, senior Ella Arenz, junior McKenna Michel and freshman Madi Ledbury won the 4x800 relay in 10 minutes and 24.5 seconds. Ryan (2:29.02) and Arenz (2:30.43) ran third and fourth in the 800 meter.

    Sophomore Emme Drobac (5:28.40) and Michel (5:37.04) ran first and fourth in the 1600. In the 3200, Drobac (11:52.88) and Michel (12:10.84) took first and third.

    Junior Brianna Ament won the 300-meter hurdles in 48.08 seconds. Ament finished second in the 110-meter hurdles at 16.24 seconds.

    The 4x400 relay team of Ament, Arenz, Ledbury and Berryman finished in first place at 4:15.33. Berryman won the high jump with a mark of five feet and took third in the long jump at 15 feet and nine inches.
