Deerfield track and field wins 12 events at Mini Invite

The Deerfield track and field team won a total of 12 events at the Deerfield Mini Invite on Thursday, April 18 at Deerfield High School.

For the boys, senior Robert Thompson won the 800-meter run in 2 minutes and 18.6 seconds. Senior Martin Kimmel finished in first place in the 1600 meter at 4:56.72.

Senior Eli Key won the 110-meter hurdles in 16.24 seconds. Key, along with senior Cody Curtis, sophomore Brayden Hein-Berdsley and junior Wyatt Brattlie, took first in the 4x400 at 3:49.41.

The 4x800 relay team of senior Landyn Christianson, Hein-Berdsley, freshman Lane Shortreed and freshman Brady Fleming finished in first place 9:45.85.

Junior Bryce Jones won the discus throw with a mark of 122 feet. In the pole vault, senior Parker Howard took first place at 12 feet, while junior Evan Grosvold (10-0) scored third and sophomore Ruben Bach (10-0) took fourth.

In the 200-meter dash, junior Zack Hansen (24.38), junior Wyatt Brattlie (24.84), senior Wayne Thompson (24.87) and Howard (25.01) took second, third, fourth and fifth. Hansen (12.10) scored third in the 100-meter dash finals.

Grosvold (36-5.5) finished fourth in the triple jump. Freshman Matthew Morrison (59.69) finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles. Jones (37-2) scored fourth in the shot put.

For the girls, junior Brianna Ament won the 100-meter hurdles at 17.83 seconds. Also in the hurdles, freshman Alicia Jungbluth (29.33) ran fifth.

Ament took first in the 300-meter hurdles at 51.36 seconds, while freshman Jayna Curtis (58.45) ran third.

Deerfield had four runners finish top-five in the 800 meter with junior Piper Ryan winning the event at 2:32.79. Junior McKenna Michel (2:33.26) took second, senior Ella Arenz (2:34.21) finished third and sophomore Arden Nickerson (2:50.57) ran fifth.

Sophomore Emme Drobac, Michel, Arenz and Ryan won the 4x400 relay at 4:34.29. Sophomore Maddie Kimmel scored first in the triple jump at 29 feet and 6.5 inches, while senior Kylee Lonigro (27-6.5) finished second.

Sophomore Rylee Berryman (13.44) finished second in the 100-meter dash. In the 400-meter, Drobac (1:06.63) ran second and freshman Madi Ledbury (1:08.44) took fourth.

Berryman took third in the long jump at 15 feet and one inch, while Jayna Curtis scored fifth at 13 feet and eight inches.

Sophomore Madelyn Ayres (28-0) scored third in the shot put. Ayres (74-3) threw fifth in the discus throw.

Deerfield Trailways Meet

The Deerfield track and field team won 13 events at the Trailways Meet held at Deerfield High School on Monday, April 15.

For the boys, senior Cody Curtis won the 800-meter run in 2 minutes and 8.39 seconds. Senior Eli Key (15.31) and junior Evan Grosvold (19.29) finished 1-2 in the 110-meter hurdles.

Key won the 300-meter hurdles in 42.59 seconds, while Grosvold (49.51) ran fifth. Senior Parker Howard placed first in the pole vault at 12 feet, while sophomore Ruben Bach (11-0) and Grosvold (10-0) took third and fourth.

The 4x100 relay team of junior Wyatt Brattlie, junior Zack Hansen, senior Wayne Thompson and Howard ran first at 46.76 seconds. The same four ran the 4x200, taking second at 1:37.82.

The 4x400 relay team of Curtis, Key, sophomore Brayden Hein-Berdsley and freshman Noah Pries ran in first place at 3:45.71.

Curtis (54.37) and sophomore Brayden Hein-Berdsley (56.66) scored second and fourth in the 400 meter. In the 3,200-meter, senior Martin Kimmel (11:07.85) ran second, senior Robert Thompson (11:54.48) finished third and senior Landyn Christianson (12:22.94) took fifth.

Junior Bryce Jones threw third in the discus throw with a mark of 113 feet and 11 inches. Junior Dayne Schwoerer (107-3) also threw fourth in the discus. Sophomore Sam Haines (39-0) and Jones (38-3) scored fourth and fifth in the shot put.

The 4x800 relay team of Christianson, Robert Thompson, freshman Lane Shortreed and freshman Brady Fleming ran third at 10:36.31.

In the high jump, Key placed fourth at five feet and four inches. Curtis tied for fifth at five feet and two inches. Brattlie (35-10.5) scored fifth in the triple jump.

Howard (11.67) ran fifth in the 100-meter dash. Hansen (23.88) took fifth in the 200 meter.

For the girls, junior Brianna Ament won the 300-meter hurdles in 51.06 seconds. Sophomore Rylee Berryman took first in the high jump at five feet and four inches.

Berryman also won the triple jump in 34 feet and 11 inches, while senior Kylee Lonigro (29-0.25) scored fourth.

In the 800 meter, sophomore Emme Drobac (2:36.65), senior Ella Arenz (2:39.46) and freshman Madi Ledbury (2:40.31) scored a 1-2-3 finish in the 3,200.

Drobac also won the 3,200 meter in 11:48.62, while junior McKenna Michel (12:52.71) finished second.

Junior Piper Ryan (6:25.34) edged out Michel (6:25.61) for first place in the 1,600-meter run. The 4x400 relay team of Arenz, Drobac, Ledbury and Ryan finished first at 4:29.12.

In the 400 meter, Berryman (1:05.35) and Ledbury (1:07.02) scored second and third.

The 4x800 relay team of Arenz, Ryan, Gracecyn Bradley and freshman Violet Zabel took second at 12:07.17. Ament (16.89) ran second in the 100-meter hurdles.

Sophomore Madelyn Ayres (30-0.5) threw second in the shot put, while freshman Rylee Ott (22-5) threw fifth. Ayres (76-2) took second in the discus throw and sophomore Aubrey Witkowski (73-04) threw third.

Freshman Violet Sweger (13.45) ran third in the 100-meter dash. Berryman (27.59) scored third in the 200 meter.

In the 4x100 relay, Sweger, junior Maddie Kimmel, senior Lilly Schultz and junior Lauryn Weisensel ran third at 58.77 seconds. The same four ran fourth in the 4x200 at 2:06.37.

Maddie Kimmel (4-6) and freshman Alicia Jungbluth (4-0) scored third and fifth in the pole vault.
