Lewis County can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent contest on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Hughes Lions as the Lewis County Panthers made off with a 13-5 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for Lewis County considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
Local community joins in National Prayer Day at courthouse
Community members gathered in prayer on the courthouse lawn at noon Thursday, May 2, for National Prayer Day. Together they held hands while each person one by one joined in prayer. On the front lawn, prayers were included for community, veterans, schools, children, nation and political leaders. The overwhelming message of the day was the importance of this meeting, no matter which belief system, that everyone can join as a community in prayer.
National Day of Prayer Ceremony Held at Waynesboro Flagpole
National Day of Prayer was last Thursday, May 2, 2024. Clergy members from across the county led prayer at the flagpole on the courthouse lawn. The theme for the 2024 National Day of Prayer is “Lift Up The Word – Light Up The World.” The theme comes from the book of 2 Samuel, Chapter 22, Verses 29-31: “For you are my lamp, O Lord, and my God lightens my darkness. For by You I can run against a troop, and by my God I can leap over a wall. This God—his way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; He is a shield for all those who take refuge in Him.”
An afternoon steeped in elegance: FHU Associates host a Victorian Tea Party
The Freed-Hardeman University Associates are once again inviting women and girls to don their finest summer dresses and perfect their pinky raises for “a unique event for tea lovers everywhere.” A Victorian Tea Party, hosted by the FHU Associates, will be held Saturday, May 18, from 12-4 p.m., at the historic Hardeman House at 307 White Avenue. Tickets may be purchased at fhu.edu/teaparty, and all proceeds will go towards FHU student scholarships.

Hello to everyone! As always, it is great to be with you today. This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. This week is National Nurses Week, May 6-12: The city of Henderson would like to express how much we appreciate you! It is a job that takes special people to work in. You are there from the beginning of life until the end of life. You know Mother’s Day is Sunday, and I can remember the nurses that helped us with our mother. Nurses perform some of the most difficult and heartbreaking tasks in the medical world. You may know a nurse; one of your family members could be a nurse. My mother was a nurse. So during this National Nurses Week, let us honor their contributions and sacrifices and remind ourselves to thank the medical professionals who keep us healthy. We can say thank you anytime we visit the doctor’s office or hospital, not just this week. I know God made them for this JOB!
Collision on Briley Parkway Claims Decaturville Man
The motorcyclist killed in Sunday’s 3:45 p.m. collision on Briley Parkway near Dickerson Pike is identified as Donald Armstrong, 77, of Decaturville, Tennessee. The preliminary investigation shows that the driver of a 2019 Infiniti was traveling westbound on Briley Parkway approaching the on-ramp from Dickerson Pike onto Briley Parkway when, according to witnesses, Armstrong accelerated up the ramp to enter Briley Parkway and struck the passenger side of the Infiniti.
