(FOX40.COM) — Saturday marks the one-year anniversary since David Breaux died as one of three victims in the Davis Stabbing killings.

Breaux, 50, was killed on April 27 and Karim Abou Najm, 20, was killed on April 29. Kimberlee Gilroy, 65, was stabbed several times on May 1 but would survive.

“A year ago, our community experienced one of the most tragic times in our city’s history,” the City of Davis shared in a social media post. “The deaths of two of our community members, and the stabbing of another, are still very much in our collective consciousness a year later.”

On Saturday, a gathering will be held at Compassion Corner and Compassion Bench in honor of Breaux, who was known across Davis as “The Compassion Guy.”

The art bench was inspired by Breaux in 2013 and he spearheaded the project to create a gathering and listening place, according to the City of Davis.

The corner of B St and Third St is now known as “Compassion Corner” in honor of Breaux.

Abou Najm will also be honored by the City of Davis and UC Davis with a memorial bench in Sycamore Park, where he lost his life on April 29.

An unveiling ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday for the bench along with the renaming of a section of the bike path from Sycamore Lane to the 113 overcrossing at Sycamore Park.

Abou Najm was a Davis Senior High School graduate and had almost completed his studies at UC Davis. A scholarship was also created in his name.

Kimberlee, age 65, was the third victim but survived her multiple stab wounds. Community members started a GoFundMe page which raised more than $60,000 to go towards Kimberlee’s hospital bills and assist with her finding permanent housing.

“Let us endeavor to act compassionately in memory of David and live vibrantly in honor of Karim,” the city writes. “Let us continue to support one another and lead with kindness.”
