DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — Police are investigating after two Danville businesses were broken into.

One had money stolen. Both are cleaning up glass.

President and Owner of Mad Goat Coffee, Samuel George, woke up to an unexpected phone call Sunday night when he was told his storefront was broken into. He said someone used a large rock to break through the glass front doors.

“It’s pretty large pieces, so it’s going to be, like, a couple thousand dollars,” he said. “As a small business, that’s never an expense you want to wake up to in the morning.”

George said this happened around 11:52 p.m. The suspect entered the building and left with money from the register.

Mad Goat Coffee wasn’t the only local business broken into. A few days before, This Is It Furniture was also hit.

“Nothing was missing. Nothing else was damaged other than the broken window,” Owner Kristie Powell said.

Powell said sensors didn’t go off when the glass broke. It wasn’t until the police scanned the building that alarms were activated.

Powell said she got the call Friday morning. George said he thought about closing down for the day, but made the call to keep business flowing.

“We want to be open. We want to serve drinks and serve our community,” he said. “And so we figured we’d still just remain open.”

WCIA called the Danville Police Department. Right now, they do not have any suspects in custody and are still investigating.
