NBA Fans Blast Lakers Star for Embarrassing Timberwolves-Mavericks Statement

The Dallas Mavericks took a 2-0 series lead over the Minnesota Timberwolves in Friday night's Game 2, stealing both games on the road to begin the Western Conference Finals. Now heading back home, Dallas will try to finish the Timberwolves off without having to return to Minnesota for Game 5.

This start to the series is one that few saw coming, as Minnesota had just eliminated the defending champion Denver Nuggets. Behind Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, Dallas has taken a commanding 2-0 series lead, and now has Minnesota on the ropes.

One person who certainly did not see this coming was Los Angeles Lakers star D'Angelo Russell, who NBA fans are blasting for predicting a Timberwolves sweep:

This post on Russell's Instagram story came prior to the Western Conference Finals beginning, and has certainly not aged well. The picture Russell shared came from his teammate Jarred Vanderbilt, who Russell also played with in Minnesota. Pulling for his former teammates, Russell felt they had a chance to sweep, but that has obviously not been the case.

Russell and the Lakers lost to the Nuggets in the opening round of the playoffs, making it two-straight years they were eliminated by Denver. Clearly not good enough to compete for a championship, the Lakers will have to make some moves this summer in order to reenter that tier of teams.
