The Dallas Mavericks are now up 2-0 against the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Finals after an epic Game 2 victory. It was a nail-biting back-and-forth contest between the two teams, with Luka Doncic , yet again, being the difference-maker.

Luka had a triple-double of 32 points, 10 rebounds, and 13 assists to lead the Mavs to a 109-108 win. However, the most significant moment was his step-back game-winner over the outstretched arms of Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert .

"There was no discussion to go for the win; I just tried to get to my spot with the step back. I'm confident in this shot, that's about it… Yeah, I told D-Live to set a screen; I'm taking the switch; we wanted that," Luka said on Inside the NBA. "I was a little bit surprised (about the switch); I think they were saying no threes… I mean, he's long enough. He can't move. I can't move fast, but I can move faster than him."

    Rudy can't keep up

While Gobert is arguably the best defender of this generation with four Defensive Player of The Year awards, he isn't the best at switching on smaller guys. The Stifle Tower is way too slow to keep up with players on the perimeter, so he plays more in the drop-defense scheme.

Despite Doncic not being the fastest player on the court, Rudy can't keep up with him. This was evident in Luka's game-winning play, followed by a trash-talking session by the Slovenian.

Coach Finch must adjust his defense

The Timberwolves are struggling when defending the Mavericks' two superstar guards, Luka and Kyrie Irving. The two can break down any defender in isolation, but they also know how to manipulate the defense by using screens to force switches.

That's why it might be better for Minnesota to deploy a drop-coverage scheme or play more of a small-ball lineup that's more suitable for switching. But whatever they decide, Chris Finch must make some changes ahead of a must-win Game 3 in Dallas.

Thankfully, the T-Wolves head coach has shown he is more than capable of rallying his troops. That's why, even though Dallas has a 2-0 lead heading home, this should still be an exciting series.
