'We need to build muscle memory': Black civic groups turn out for early vote drive in Shreveport
Those in the line outside the Caddo Registrar of Voters Saturday morning were there to do more than vote — they were there to be seen. Early voting was in full swing Saturday as members of groups acting under the loose affiliation of the "Black Voter Collective" came out to cast their ballots. With a goal of rallying 5,000 voters in a single day, their mission was just as much about signaling the power Black voters have.

Shreveport airport wins top state commercial service honor
The City of Shreveport announces that Shreveport Regional Airport has been named the 2026 Commercial Service Airport of the Year by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD). The award recognizes Shreveport Regional for its outstanding performance and contributions to aviation in Louisiana, according to a news release. In addition to the airport's recognition, Stacy Kuba, Deputy Director of Airports for the Shreveport Airport Authority , was named Louisiana's 2026 Aviation Professional of the Year, recognizing her dedication and 20 years of service to the aviation industry. "These awards are a tremendous honor for Shreveport and a reflection of the hard work taking place at our airports," Mayor Tom Arceneaux said. "Our airport team continues to make meaningful improvements, strengthen our aviation infrastructure, and position Shreveport for future growth. I'm especially pleased to see Stacy recognized for her 20 years of dedicated service. Both awards are well deserved." The awards were announced during the Louisiana Airport Managers and Associates annual conference in New Orleans, where Shreveport Airport Authority representatives also are meeting with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) officials regarding additional federal grant funding for the airport's air traffic control tower project. Shreveport council push for raises for all city workers
(The Center Square) - Shreveport officials will calculate the cost of accelerating pay raises for city employees after council members pushed to move those increases closer to the proposed Dec. 1 raises for police officers and firefighters. Under Mayor Tom Arceneaux's plan, police officers and firefighters would receive a 6% base salary increase effective Dec. 1. The raises would initially be funded with building permit revenue from data centers, with the city eventually shifting to recurring revenue to sustain the increases. During Monday's administrative conference, council members argued that employees in various city departments were just as essential to city operations as police officers and firefighters and should not have to wait months for pay increases. More than 400 city employees are expected to receive raises beginning Jan. 1, 2027, Shreveport Chief Administrative Officer Tom Dark said, after a compensation study found their salaries fell behind those for similar positions in other cities. Dark said the raises were purposely spread out over several months to avoid payroll mistakes. "Doing these all at once raises more and more of the possibilities of payroll errors and things like that," Dark said. "We were trying to spread it out." Councilman James Green argued
