First Fridays: Art Crawls Open First Weekends of Summer
DECORAH — Start the first weekend of each month in Decorah with an art crawl. As part of the First Fridays program, participants can take a walk around Decorah to view artwork and indulge in beer or wine tastings, snacks and music. On the first Friday for the next three months, three Decorah locations will be featuring a variety of artists.

School Bus Rollover May 31
According to Fillmore County Sheriff John DeGeorge, a single vehicle school bus rollover crash was reported at approximately 10:11 a.m. Friday morning, May 31, 2024. The crash occurred on 212th street, west of the intersection with 201st Avenue. The bus was carrying 35 middle school students and four adults from the Winona Middle School. A small number of students were initially transported to the hospital by ambulance with minor injuries. Initial investigation indicates that the right side tires of the bus drove off the gravel road in an area with a steep shoulder, causing the bus to tip on its side. Further investigation into the crash continues.

Viking Grand Slam Turns the Tide Against MFL MarMac
DECORAH — In a Tuesday evening matchup against MFL MarMac, Decorah Baseball produced an impressive comeback, securing a 7-3 victory after an early deficit. Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the 5th inning, Decorah's Brady Bohner's grand slam turned the tide. This impressive play dramatically shifted the momentum of the team. Mason Avila's 2 RBI single in the bottom of the 6th further solidified Decorah's lead. Relief pitcher Brayden Wemark's three scoreless innings sealed the win. Wemark only surrendered one hit.
Decorah Graduate Obtains Optometry Doctorate
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Katelyn Perez, O.D., of Decorah, Iowa, was among 131 students recently awarded a Doctor of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis. Perez graduated summa cum laude and received the Burnett Endowed Award for Student Achievement in Research, which recognizes a graduate who demonstrated excellence in student research. Additionally, she was named a member of Beta Sigma Kappa, an honor awarded to students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement.
