'Tossed and Found' announces Charitable Grant recipients
Elma, IA.-- The the Tossed & Found thrift store announced the recipients of its March 2024 Charitable Grant Program. The non-profit store opened in mid-year 2008 and is under the fiscal oversight of The BRIDGE Organization Inc. Located at 321 Main Street, across from Security State Bank, the store accepts donations of good, used items, then resells them with net proceeds given out to 501c3 non-profit or government entity groups in the communities of Elma, Alta Vista, Lourdes & Riceville for community better projects & programs. Grants are awarded in two annual grant cycles each year-- March and September. The 2024 March cycle resulted in a total of $5000 being awarded to qualified applicants/projects and since 2008 the store has awarded over $38,000 toward community projects, as well as purchasing over $26,500 in “Welcome to Elma “ banners and donating over $550 in its annual Kid’s Shopping Day each December for local youth.
Trailside Folk Art Turning Traditions
David and Lynn Susag of Lanesboro, Minn., share their love of Nordic handcrafts with the local community and upper midwest through Trailside Folk Art, where they specialize in Nordic handicrafts and ancient techniques. Over the years they have demonstrated paper cutting and hand sewing as well as knife making, but their main focus is demonstrating and selling wooden dishes turned on a spring pole lathe and skinnfell items.
Mabel Schedules Public Hearing
During the May 8 city council meeting, Mabel City Clerk Karen Larson announced that the city has scheduled a public hearing on May 23 at 6 p.m. The hearing will be held at city hall. The public hearing is an opportunity for residents to ask questions and share their options regarding the city’s potential water project.
Mitchell County man accused of savagely beating a woman pleads not guilty
OSAGE, Iowa – A man accused of viciously beating a woman and then brawling with law enforcement in Mitchell County is pleading not guilty. Anthony Nicholas Evenson, 31 of Riceville, is now set to stand trial beginning June 5 for domestic abuse assault, and four counts of assault on persons in certain occupations.

Rochester, MN – Southeast Service Cooperative (SSC) is a recipient of the 2024 Best Places to Work award. This is the 13th time SSC has won this honor.
