Mobile men appear for capital murder arraignment in death of 14-year-old
MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Three people accused of killing a 14-year-old girl who was riding in a car in Midtown appeared for an arraignment Wednesday on capital murder charges. Two of the defendants, Lamonyae Laburn Forrest, 20, of Mobile and Semaj James, 18, of Mobile, asked to be treated as “youthful offenders.” A judge set a hearing for June 17. Under state law, defendants who were younger than 21 at the time of the offense are eligible to be considered for “youthful offender” status, which results in the sealing of their court records and limits any punishment to three years in prison.

Mitzy Gaye Smith, 54, Judy Owen, 61, and Sandra Grimes, 57, are all charged with conspiracy to commit murder for hire, conspiracy to transfer a firearm to be used in a violent crime and use of interstate commerce facilities to commit murder for hire.
