JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – Deputies said a man already behind bars for a prior crime allegedly threatened to kill a family member while trying to calm them down. Craighead County District Court Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause on Wednesday, April 24, to charge 49-year-old Gregory Dean Scroggins, of Jonesboro, with first-degree terroristic threatening and aggravated assault on a family or household member.

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – Police said a man who was arrested for driving with a suspended license tried to smuggle drugs by putting them in his rectum. Craighead County District Court Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause on Wednesday, April 24, to charge 51-year-old Steven Ray Parnell, of Lebanon, Missouri, with possession of meth or cocaine, tampering with physical evidence, driving while license canceled, suspended, or revoked, and no proof of liability insurance.

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - Police arrested a Jonesboro man after they said he threatened to cut someone’s guts out with a box cutter. Craighead County District Court Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause on Thursday, April 18, to charge 19-year-old Austin Fortenberry with aggravated assault on a family or household member, first-degree terroristic threatening, and second-degree assault.

In 2007, when Brookland Mayor Kenneth Jones began his first term, 1,362 people lived in the Craighead County town. Locals then feared that the recent opening of the U.S. 49 bypass, which skirted the town to the west, would keep visitors from the downtown area. Revenues would dry up—both from less taxes on local sales and in the lack of tickets the police would issue to those zipping through the old main road through town.

District Court Judge David Boling found probable cause Wednesday to charge 62-year-old Freddie Hugh Heise with first-degree terroristic threatening.
City council approves construction of connector road
JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - A road project in Craighead County has seen a major step forward. On Tuesday, April 16, the Jonesboro City Council approved a resolution in a 10-2 vote to partner with Arkansas State University and the Arkansas Department of Transportation to build a new connector between Highway 49 (Red Wolf Boulevard) and Highway 351.
