City council votes to slow down the speed near Andy's Lake
Norfolk - Community members’ concerns about speed on a stretch of road heading into Norfolk have been heard by the city council in a unanimous vote. The ordinance changes the posted 55 miles per hour to 40 on South 1st Street between Sherwood Road and Jackson Avenue. Norfolk Police Chief Brian Tighe says slowing down the speed of traffic will benefit pedestrians and bicyclists as the roadway lacks a shoulder or a sidewalk.

NORFOLK, Neb. (News Channel Nebraska) - A cleanup operation is underway near Norfolk Iron and Metal on Saturday because of a train derailment. Video from the scene shows at least six train cars off of the rails at the Victory Road railroad crossing immediately east of Norfolk Iron and Metal. The derailment occurred directly at the crossing, meaning all traffic is blocked on that section of Victory Road. Several workers were on scene assessing the situation.

Two-vehicle accident shuts down Highway 81 near Madison
MADISON, Neb. (NCN) - A two-vehicle accident occurred on Thursday at the intersection of Highway 81 and North Main Street, just outside Madison city limits. Preliminary investigations, eyewitness accounts and evidence from the scene suggest that a Black Dodge Durango nearly collided with a vehicle traveling northbound on Highway 81 as it turned left from North Main Street onto Highway 81. The Durango stopped in the left lane of northbound traffic on Highway 81 where it was rear-ended by four occupants in a Red Nissan Sentra traveling northbound on Highway 81.

Roadside construction on Norfolk Avenue begins
NORFOLK, Neb.-- Changes are being done on Norfolk Avenue between seventh and eighth street. The street is temporarily closed due to the water main work related to the anticipated Northeast Community College iHub building. Work is expected to be completed on June 19th, with crews returning to begin work on the south side of Norfolk Avenue which is anticipated to be finished by June 26th.

NORFOLK, Neb. — As of late Tuesday afternoon, northbound traffic is shut down on the bridge that serves as the main north/south entrance to Norfolk. Authorities responded to the Highway 81 bridge over the Elkhorn River around 2:15 Tuesday afternoon for a traffic concern. A trailer hauling farm machinery got stuck in the guardrail on the east edge of the bridge.
