There will be a runoff election in Hinton Tuesday, for two open city council seats. On November 7, there were 3 at-large seats up for vote in Hinton. Incumbent councilman Jeffrey Johnson was reelected, but no other candidates filed for candidacy. There were 142 write-in votes. The three people who received the most write-in votes – Brooke Smith, Lee Adams, and Chris Zeller – filed afadavits of candidacy. The runoff vote, to take place tomorrow, will determine which two of the three candidates will be elected to the city council. Polls will be open Tuesday from 7 am to 8 pm.
Three Injured In Friday Evening Crash Near Sioux Center
Sioux Center, Iowa — Three people were transported to Sioux County hospitals following a two vehicle crash near Sioux Center early Friday evening. According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, the mishap occurred shortly before 6:00pm Friday, when a 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander, driven by 26-year-old Cara Van Den Top of Hull, was westbound on 400th Street, one mile east of Sioux Center. Deputies say Van Den Top slowed to avoid deer on the roadway when her SUV was struck from behind by a westbound 2018 Ford Edge, driven by 35-year-old Hope Johnson of Orange City. After the collision, authorities say Johnson’s Ford rolled into the north ditch.
Local Resident Ashlyn Bailey Hits Deer on Highway 10, No Injuries Reported
On Sunday, December 3, at 4:57 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Highway 10, two miles north of Hawarden, IA. Ashlyn Bailey, age 20, of Hawarden, was driving a 2016 GMC Acadia northbound on Highway 10 when she struck a deer on the roadway. No injuries were reported. Bulldog Basketball Splits MRAC Openers at Sergeant Bluff-Luton
The Le Mars basketball teams started their MRAC schedule on Friday night in Sergeant Bluff with matchups against Sergeant Bluff-Luton. The ninth-ranked Le Mars girls started things off right with a strong 72-47 win over the Warriors in a game that was in the Bulldogs’ control for the entire night. After taking the lead to end the first, Le Mars did not look back in starting the MRAC schedule 1-0. Head coach Sidney Baumgartner says the Bulldogs were able to play their game the way they wanted to all night.

Local Resident Kelly Kots in Rollover Accident South of Ireton, Causes $10,000 Damage
A motor vehicle accident occurred south of Ireton, IA on November 26. The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated the incident. The driver, Kelly Kots, 64, lost control of her 2002 Ford Explorer. This caused the vehicle to enter a ditch and roll over.
Four members of WWII Last Man’s Club gather to remember
LE MARS — The four remaining members of the World War II Last Man’s Club gathered for their annual banquet on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at the American Legion Club in Le Mars. Ralph Niehus, 97, Bill McDougall, 96, Wayne Faber, 95, and Ken Gerdes, who will be 96 in December, gathered with family members and host Legion members to be recognized for their military service and for fighting for freedom.
