According to reports, officers were dispatched to a fight call at the Sunrise Apartments, which was upgraded to a shots-fired call.

Multiple residents at the complex told police that a man took a gun out of his shorts and fired 5-6 rounds in front of one of the buildings.

Officers identified Jones, who lives at the apartments, as the suspect. He was detained and transported to the Covington Police Department for questioning, where he allegedly denied any involvement in the shooting and also denied having a handgun.

Reports say the Covington Police Department executed a search warrant on Jones’ apartment and vehicle. During the search, they discovered a stolen gun that had similar cartridge casings to four casings found on the scene of the crime.

Police also determined that the gun was stolen in Mississippi.

The case is being jointly investigated by the Covington Police Department and the Mississippi Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.

Covington Police say no one was injured in the incident.

Jones is being held at the Tipton County Jail on a $250,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
