Roadwork set to close parts of 28th Street next week
Fiber optic installation will cause lane closures June 4 on 28th Street. The work will take place on both the north and south lanes of the roadway in the area between Oak and Walnut streets, according to Sellenriek Construction, the group that will oversee the project.

City leaders and elected officials gathered Wednesday to review options for how to handle a large funding shortfall tied to several park restroom construction projects. Council members called for the meeting after bids for construction of new restroom facilities at five locations — Corby Grove, Eagles Field, Hochman Park, Hyde Park and Northeast Park — came in over budget by $694,758.
District forecasts recruitment challenges
As the St. Joseph School District sets to work on hiring teachers and staff this summer, it faces a challenge. Assistant Superintendent Brian Kraus told the Board of Education this week that he does not have specific numbers on the effort to hire employees for the 2024-25 year, but that the “applicant pool” — people who are qualified and available to work for the district — is reduced in size compared to last year.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A chip seal project will begin on Monday, June 3 on U.S. 73 and U.S. 35 in Brown and Doniphan counties. According to the Kansas Department of Transportation, crews will begin work on Monday, June 3 on U.S. 73 through the city limits of Hiawatha. Lane reductions will be in place through the 1-mile corridor. This portion is expected to be complete by mid-week, conditions permitting.
