UC softball blanks Bloomsburg 3-0 in NCAA Tournament
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — The University of Charleston softball team entered the NCAA tournament at 45-4, but came in as the No. 3 seed in the Atlantic Region. The Golden Eagles' success in Charleston -- a 20-1 home record -- continued during the first round of the NCAA Tournament Thursday as UC blanked Bloomsburg 3-0. Nitro native Brianna McCown was sharp in the circle and improved to 31-3 with the win. McCown threw a one-hit shutout, while striking out six and walking just one batter.

The Cross Lanes Christian Warriors lost 12-4 to the Elliott County Lions on Thursday. Cross Lanes Christian has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games. For Elliott County's part, Bailee Artripp made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Artripp was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - Go Mart Ballpark was good to West Virginia State and the University of Charleston on Wednesday. Both programs won their first round games in the Mountain East Conference baseball tournament with UC beating Wheeling 10-0 and the Yellow Jackets topping Frostburg State 8-1. Their next games are Friday in Charleston.
