Amid health care cuts, Clínica Amistad provides
Opened in 2003, Clínica Amistad: a project of Amistad y Salud, administers medical help to Tucson’s uninsured. “Baically what happens is we serve all patients who have zero insurance,” said Nicole Glasner, executive director of the nonprofit clinic. “We're a primary health care clinic that takes care of those health care needs. So once you come in our door and are established with one of our doctors, who are volunteers, we take care of your health care needs from beginning to end, and we never charge our patient a dime.”

Employment, shopping and health care are almost never within walking or even short driving distance for so many of us. When caregiving for an elderly relative involves traveling long distances to get them to appointments and is paired with employment and family obligations, the pressure builds. Too often, the only choice seems to be to place them in a far away residential care facility that adds thousands of dollars to monthly expenses and for that a dear loved one is often forced to live a diminished lifestyle without ever truly feeling at home again.
