Iowa gas prices drop again

(Des Moines) -- Gas prices continue a downward trend in Iowa. Triple A Iowa's weekly fuel report indicates the price of unleaded gasoline averaged $3.97 per gallon across Iowa. That's down 17 cents from last week's price, and are up $1.23 per gallon from a year ago. Wednesday's national average was $4.12, down 13 cents from a year ago.

Iowa Fuel Report: Nov. 4, 2026

Fuel prices, both in Iowa and nationwide, fell the day after Tuesday’s elections, according to the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) and AAA-Iowa. As of Wednesday, Nov. 4, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in the state was $3.97, down 17 cents from the prior week but still $1.23 higher than a year ago. The national average on Wednesday was down 13 cents to $4.12 per gallon. As for Iowa retail diesel, the average dropped 11 cents to $6.03, compared to $3.58 at the beginning of November 2025. The national average stood at $6.27 per gallon on Wednesday. Looking to the Des Moines Terminal, E10 was $2.96, Unleaded 87 was $3.38, ULSD#2 was $4.75, ULSD#1 was $5.13, E15 was $2.51, and E70 was $2.37. Natural gas prices at the Henry Hub reporting site were down 12 cents to $2.93 per MMBtu. Propane prices averaged $1.85 per gallon, while home heating oil stood at $5.70 per gallon.

Iowa DOT crews need to connect the ramps to the new eastbound I-80 pavement. Here's what to know: When is Iowa DOT closing Northeast Mixmaster ramps and eastbound I-80? The following closures will begin at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1, and end at 5 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 6: Eastbound I-235 to eastbound I-80 Southbound I-35 to eastbound I-80 Eastbound I-80 from the Mixmaster to U.S. 65 (begins at 9 p.m.) The eastbound Interstate 235 to westbound I-80 ramp will be closed for more than a month. This closure begins at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1, and ends at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 9. Where's the detour when Iowa DOT closes eastbound I-80 near the Northeast Mixmaster? The detour for most of the closures will take drivers onto the blue detour route from eastbound I-80 and shunt them onto southbound I-235. Once you exit onto Euclid Ave., turn left onto Hubbell Ave. to join State Highway 65 before merging back onto eastbound I-80. For the longer eastbound Interstate 235 to westbound I-80 ramp closure, follow the green route.
